Devlog 002: Letting You Choose the Chart That Fits: Custom Life Palace Options Are in Development
A recent user note brought up exactly the kind of edge case that makes a chart tool worth improving.
This reader is the younger twin. When their chart was interpreted by treating the Siblings Palace (兄弟宮) as the Life Palace (命宮), the result felt completely unlike them. In fact, it felt even less accurate than reading from the Travel Palace (遷移宮). They asked whether sǹg-miā could support more Life Palace placement options.
Why this feedback felt personal
That message landed close to home.
As the younger twin myself, born only two minutes after my older sister, the whole reason I first fell so deeply into Zi Wei Dou Shu was to find the chart that truly felt like mine.
Over the years, I have heard several approaches from different teachers. Some keep the original Life Palace. Some read the opposite Travel Palace. Some treat the Siblings Palace as the Life Palace for a younger twin. I have even met teachers who were firmly in the "Travel Palace school" and felt certain that the younger twin should be read that way.
But honestly, when the reading was built from the Travel Palace, it never sounded like my life.
Why this matters for real chart reading
This is one of the things that keeps Zi Wei Dou Shu interesting. The system has structure, but lived experience still matters. Some questions are not solved by repeating one rule louder. They need more cases, more feedback, and more careful comparison.
Twin charts are a good example. Should we keep the original Life Palace? Reference the Travel Palace? Use the Siblings Palace as a substitute Life Palace? Each method has its own logic, but the user's sense of whether a reading actually fits should not be brushed aside.
As sǹg-miā grows, we want to keep collecting these stories and turn them into better tools, clearer explanations, and fewer rigid assumptions.
Custom Life Palace options are now on the roadmap
The requested "custom Life Palace" feature is now on our development backlog.
The goal is to give you more flexibility when generating a chart. You will be able to keep the original Life Palace, or try another reference point based on your research, a teacher's method, or your own lived experience.
A chart should not lock a person into one interpretation. It should help people get closer to themselves. This update is one more step toward putting that choice back in your hands.
